COMPUTER BASED TRANSCRIBER EQUIPMENT

The CAI course currently uses the most up-to-date transcription equipment available. You will be able to listen to your CDs if using the traditional course or audio files if studying online using this transcriber unit. These units include a downloadable transcription program that will allow you to have the same functions of a regular desktop transcriber. These units are what are becoming most widely used in the field to transcribe documents via Internet/server. Many companies now use these computer based units instead of desktop/audio cassette tapes or C-phones. These units function the same way as a physical desktop transcriber, except the foot pedal and headset connect directly to your PC. Through the use of the user friendly transcription software program included with your course materials, you can then transcribe digital dictations using a transcriber unit that appears directly on your computer screen. All units are equipped with tone, volume, speed, and auto backspace controls.

These units are included upon enrollment. In order to provide any technical or instructional help regarding the use of this equipment, we do prefer all students to use the same equipment, however, should you wish to purchase your own transcriber equipment or already have this equipment, we will deduct the cost from the total cost of your enrollment.

All files you receive with the course study materials are in WAV format for the traditional course with CDs or MP3 if studying online, so be sure to purchase a computer based transcription unit that is capable of playing these files and that includes transcription capability software. You cannot use Real Player, Windows Media Player, or any other music player for the course. You need a player that is geared specifically for transcription.

Although most computers built within the last five years will most likely be compatible for the computer based transcriber equipment, we have listed below the PC requirements necessary to use this equipment:

CD Drive	Min. 16X CD-ROM or CR-R, CD-RW (CD Drive is not required for online students)

NOTE: This transcriber unit will work on MAC systems.

Transcriber units are included in your course package.

If you have any questions or technical problems with the unit, please contact CAI. If your unit is damaged upon receipt, please notify CAI within 24 hours to make arrangements for exchange. All warranties come directly from the distributor/manufacturer. CAI offers the transcriber unit as a courtesy and has no affiliation with the manufacturer of these units.
